Tennessee Rand has been awarded a contract to build robotic systems and tooling for a Tier 1 supplier to the new Volkswagen that will be built here in Chattanooga. Tennessee Rand is currently building the systems that will produce the full exhaust system for the new mid-sized sedan. The systems, that include Motoman robots for arc welding and material handling, will be installed at the Tier 1 supplier’s new plant to be built in Chattanooga. The welded assemblies will then be sent directly to Volkswagen for installation. This is one of several projects that Tennessee Rand is involved in, supporting Volkswagen and their suppliers as they work toward building vehicles in Chattanooga in 2011.
